The invitation is one of the first impressions your guest will have of
your wedding and they should reflect the occasion perfectly. Invitations
vary in style, color, and size. There are many different pieces to an
invitation and each has a unique function.
The main part of a wedding ensemble is the invitation. It announces the
bride and the groom’s wedding date, location, and typically, although not
always, include the names of their parents.
This invitation traditionally has two envelopes. The first is what the
actual address will be written on, customarily by a calligrapher. The inner
envelope is normally lined and the names of each invited guest is written on
this envelope.
The next portion of the wedding ensemble is the reception card. This tells
the wedding guests where the wedding reception will be held. Occasionally,
the wedding and reception is at the same location and this card is not
needed. However, the majority of weddings need a reception card.
Response, or reply cards, are the next piece of the ensemble. This is
important because it includes a self-addressed stamped envelope that the
guest will mark whether or not they will be able to attend the wedding.
Sometimes food choices are included on this card.
Thank you cards, or informal cards are also an important item to purchase at
this time. They are usually inexpensive when compared to other stores
generic thank you cards. Better yet, they are personalized and match your
invitations. Thank you cards simply say thank you on the front. Informal
cards have the couples name or monogram and are blank inside to write the
note. It is frowned upon in etiquette guides to have a pre-printed thank
you notes. Take the time to handwrite each guest a heartfelt, meaningful
note of appreciation.
